Megyn Kelly Talks With United 93 Hero Mark Bingham’s Mother, Alice Hoagland (VIDEO)

Today on such a solemn occasion, Megyn Kelly was on the air for an extended weekend version of America Live to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. This has to be one of the most poignant and moving segments of any of the shows today, and of course it had to be on the best daytime cable show, Megyn Kelly’s America Live.

Megyn’s guest was Alice Hoagland, who is the mother of Mark Bingham (although the chyron, I believe, incorrectly indicated his name as Matt Bingham), one of the heroes of United flight 93, and she has been one of the most vocal proponents of the heroes of flight 93.

Bingham, along with Jeremy Glick and Todd Beamer, were just 3 of the stalwart patriots who decided to take charge and be the deciders of their own fates. They all knew they were probably going to die, but refused to let it happen on the terrorists’ terms. They recruited as many willing passengers aboard United 93 as they could to gather with them, collect make-shift weapons, and summon the courage and will to rush the terrorists, reclaim the cockpit and control of the airplane, and most likely save the lives of hundreds on the ground in D.C. They did so selflessly, probably knowing all too well their fates were sealed.

Megyn Kelly Speaks to Todd Beamer’s Father About United 93 Heroes (VIDEO)

Recently Megyn Kelly had Todd Beamer’s father, David, on her show to talk about the heroism that Todd and his fellow passengers showed aboard flight United 93 by refusing to succumb to a fate they did not determine. What they did do was to decide to make their own fate by denying the terrorists their want, which was to hit, most likely, the U.S. Capitol, by banding together to fight them and commandeer the plane. They knew regardless of their decisions, they were all going to die, but thanks to folks like Todd Beamer, Mark Bingham, Jeremy Glick and others, they did what needed to be done – they made sure to deny the Islamofascists their intended target, knowing they would all die in the process, as the plane descended at over 500 MPH into that field in Shanksville, PA. They were truly the first American fighers to engage in the battle in the global war on terror against Islamo-fascists and will always be remembered as such.

Note: You hear David Beamer talk about saying the Pledge of Allegiance and it sounds a bit disconnected, but his appearance on America Live came directly after Megyn’s previous segment on the Brookline MA controvery over elementary school children saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

Uncomfortably Numb, Re-Awakened Anew: A Re-Post

EDITOR’S NOTE 9/12/10: This was originally posted in 2006, after I saw the newly-released “United 93” movie. I thought there would be no better day than today to re-post this item upon reflection of the events of this past Saturday and all the memorials. I feel like perhaps we may be waking up again, but I’m not sure. I just hope we can all find it in ourselves to say once again…”Let’s roll.”

ORIGINAL POST:

I’ve been sitting here for the past hour and a half wondering what to write, if I could write, or if I should write. I know that the topic du jour is illegal immigration, and in some ways, what I feel right now makes that issue even more important and relevant.

I went tonight to the 7PM showing of “United 93” at a local theater. I wanted my friend and I to beat the evening after-dinner crowd, because I knew I would need a while to decompress afterwards, even before I saw the film.
