Remembering Our Fallen Heroes This Memorial Day (VIDEO)

And what better way to remind us all of what others have sacrificed so much for than to share with you the story of one such hero, 1st Lt. Travis Manion USMC. Travis was killed by a sniper in Fallujah while trying to help his fellow Marines stop an enemy ambush. The Travis Manion Foundation was created in his honor, and was initially run by his mother Janet, who recently succumbed to her battle with Stage 4 lung cancer. Travis’ sister, Ryan, however picked up the mantle and continues to run the foundation. Chris Wallace interviewed her as this week’s Fox News Sunday “Power Player of the Week.”

From FNS:

I urge you to visit the Foundation website and read all the stories there, watch the videos, and contribute if you can. God bless our warriors who fight and are willing to die for us unconditionally.

…What Col. West Said! ‘Shut Your Mouth; War Is Hell!’

I’ve been stewing on this and stewing on this figuring out the right way to convey how I feel about it, and I’ve been struggling with just the right words to describe my sentiment. I read a fabulous screed by Deebow over at BlackFive, but it wasn’t until I saw the headline in a Weekly Standard piece today that quoted Lt. Col. Allen West (R-FL) on this matter. I couldn’t have said it better myself:

‘Shut Your Mouth, War Is Hell’

Cong. Lt. Col. AllenWest
Yes, you got that right. Congressman West has weighed in on this flap over the Marines taking a piss on dead Taliban terrorists, sending an email to the Weekly Standard, who got his permission to print what he said. Here’s a portion of his commentary:

“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.

Beck on “Faces of Freedom” Book, Profiling 52 Military Heroes (VIDEO)

Last week, Glenn Beck had on authors Rebeccca Pepin and Ruth McGlothlin, of the new book “Faces of Freedom.” This book is dedicated to 52 heroes who have fought for freedom in the current war on terror, and all proceeds of the book sales go to the Fisher House and the the Wounded Warrior Project. If you want to contribute to this effort, or buy the book, please visit RebeccaPepin.com.

Rebecca is from Canada, but is a newly-naturalized citizen of the United States, and is very proud to have been a part of this project. An extra note about the book is that it includes a tribute to Navy SEAL Danny Dietz, who was so proudly honored by Marcus Luttrell in his book “Lone Survivor” about the largest single loss of Navy SEALs ever.

Ruth’s son, Ryan, is also honored in this book, and he carried a poem in his pocket titled “Don’t Quit.” Ryan signed up but never got to serve, however. He signed up yet his life was cut short before he could fulfill his dream of service to this country.

Please go here and BUY THIS BOOK! Your money will go to great causes.
