i have to agree. i was brought up in the catholic church and the most prominent christian leaders of the past twenty years have become the polar opposite of what i was told to believe in. then again, i no longer need religion to do what is good and what is right, it's just part of me.

i believe that hume is just trying to keep up with the hannity's and beck's and the fox network in general. it's just more red meat for the christian base but no one other than the fanatics are going to think it was tactful or appropriate.

what I don't understand is how people can be so very dense about the message in Brit Hume's comments. He says he didn't mean to denigrate the Buddist faith. Yet he implied that the Buddist faith did not offer the same ethical and moral standards as Christianity basically. I know that's not how he worded it but come on - what does it mean to you? Talking about how it would "shine through" Tiger if he made a conversion to Christianity. If Tiger were being TRUE to the Buddist ideals and ethics - that would shine through too, and he wouldn't behave the way he has. Buddism does not condone hurting, deceiving, and using other people. Buddism does not condone infidelity. It's not so much people reacting negatively to Christianity although Bill O'Reilly would have the world think so - but the fact that Brit Hume (and Bill O apparently) so grossly underestimate and misunderstand Buddist ethics, to the point that the implication is that Buddism somehow falls short where Christianity does not. One thing Christianity does very well at, and that is bolstering people's sense of self-righteousness and superiority. I thouight Jesus Christ was all about being humble. I don't see that coming across from many who say they are Christians today. I'm just sayin'.

Religion, by definition, is a set of beliefs that should guide a man or woman to live the best life possible in the 'here and now', be they 'religious' or not. Those guiding principles can be found in anything from the Bible to the Constitution.

What determines how that life is lived within the framework of the Christian faith is what separates it from all other religions: knowing that one is to live life in this world the best he or she can in light of there being a 'hereafter'.

The determining factor that Christians hang their belief system on, since they (like Tiger) fall short of the expectations to live life within the tenets of their faith, is none other than Jesus Christ and the belief that He paid the price to gain entrance into the 'Heaven' part of the 'hereafter' on their behalf.

Otherwise: Let us all join Tiger and eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die!

if he did convert, tiger would fit right in with the other "family value" christians like david vitter, larry craig, john ensign, newt, mccain, the k street gang - all cheated on their wives but have been conveniently "forgiven" by christians simply because they are christians. of course, non-catholics just see these scumbags for what they really are - claiming to be one thing while simultaneously screwing their mistress (or dudes) on the side while sucking money off of gullible bible thumpers.
