Today on the Glenn Beck show, Judge Napolitano, sitting in for Glenn, brought up this very sentient question: Why is this singer’s death more important than that of our military men and women who give their lives to protect this very country, which Jackson so freely enjoyed? Answer: It’s not more important. And shame on the media for not doing their job.
On June 25th, Army Lt. Brian Bradshaw was killed in Afghanistan by an IED, and his aunt wrote an op-ed piece for the Washington Post asking the “why” of the importance question. Lt. Bradshaw was one of 13 servicemembers who gave their lives for all of us since that date, and they should be equally memorialized.
My nephew, Brian Bradshaw, was killed by an explosive device in Afghanistan on June 25, the same day that Michael Jackson died. Mr. Jackson received days of wall-to-wall coverage in the media. Where was the coverage of my nephew or the other soldiers who died that week? There were several of them, and our family crossed paths with the family of another fallen soldier at Dover Air Force Base, where the bodies come “home.” Only the media in Brian’s hometown and where he was stationed before his deployment covered his death.
I remember Brian as a toddler wandering around in cowboy boots and hat, not seeing the need for any other clothing. He grew into a thoroughly decent person with a wry sense of humor. He loved wolves and history. Most Christmases, I gave him a biography or some analysis of the Civil War. He read such things for pleasure.
He had old-fashioned values and believed that military service was patriotic and that actions counted more than talk. He wasn’t much for talking, although he could communicate volumes with a raised eyebrow.
Serene Jones, Gary Dorrien, and Cornel West, all alleged religious scholars, were on a recent segment of Bill Moyers’ Journal, talking about the age of Obama and capitalism, theology, social justice, and many other things. Cornel West, committed race pimp, had the following gems to share from the transcript:
…”the age of Obama actually emerges with a discredited Republican party in disarray. With a mediocre Democratic party that only had the Clinton machine at the center. And if this charismatic, brilliant, young, black brother can somehow get over the Clinton machine, he can become president.
“That’s why I supported him. Critically! A Socratic, prophetic, orientation toward the brother, right? Because he becomes the initiator of a new age. We had to bring the age of Reagan to a close. The era of conservatism had to be brought to a close. Thank God it was. But then the question will be, well, is he going to focus on the poor and working people? Will he recycle neo-liberal elites from the old establishment of Wall Street – which the economic team is?”
Then they go on to discuss the Progressive agenda and Obama’s presidency. This should shed a bright light for EVERYONE to understand what his progressive followers want and expect of him (and it’s quite scary, I might add):
“BILL MOYERS: You said, after the election, “We want to give him time. We want to give him room.” And my question to you is: how much room and how much time?
“CORNEL WEST: Well, the first thing we want to do, we want to protect him, and he and his precious family. Second thing we want to do, we want to make sure all the criticism is fair, so it’s not ad hominids, it’s not personal. It’s not racist. It’s not whatever, you see.
My GOD can it get much worse than this? Is he freaking kidding me? My TV was lucky it was spared a couple of Glock rounds into it, but it was only because it was a new HD model.
What an absolute national disgrace this douchebag is. Makes Jimmy Carter look like a stalwart American patriot! I’m not embarrassed for my country; I am embarrassed he’s REPRESENTING my country! Lord God Almighty, please help us. Obama, you talk about the Cold War but make no mention of Ronald Reagan? You, sir, are a total defeatocrat surrender-monkey. YOU EMBARRASS ME!
