Barack Gets Rebuffed on Saudi Welcome Line (VIDEO)

Today POTUS, or PrezBO as I like to call him, paid his first visit in the Middle East this week to Saudi Arabia. This video from a bit of him on the “Welcome Line” with King Abdullah CLEARLY shows that few there want to acknowledge him on that line.

Watch in slow motion that Barack clearly extends his hands several times, yet nobody accepts his hand. He finally does get a response from the last man in this brief clip. I’ve recorded it in slow motion so you can clearly see that he gets no love from the first 3 or 4 folks in the line. If you watch the woman, it appears she takes his hand, but as she pulls hers back, you can clearly see she was grasping Abdullah’s hand and Obama is pulling his back to his side. They only extend their hand for King Abdullah.

Poor Obama…not feeling the love you thought you would? He’s DEFINITELY not feeling the adulation he enjoys in the Western world. Guess he’s the Rodney Dangerfield in The Kingdom today. ;-)

***UPDATE***

It does appear that a couple of these folks might be Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett (part of his staff), but my point remains: why does Obama try to shake their hands then? Secondly, if he’s just trying to point them out to the King, wouldn’t he use his dominant hand (his left)? He’s using his right hand, which is what is universally used to shake hands, so I’m not buying the intro thing either.

    Because it's impolite to use the left hand for anything but wiping cracks in Saudi, moran.

    It's quite possible he's introducing these people. It's considered impolite in that society to gesture towards someone with your left hand…it's the “poopy one”.

    but I have to point out that he is just introducing his staff to the king, not outstretching his hand to shake. It is valerie jarret and David Axelrod if you look…he wouldnt be shaking their hands, they are his staff.

    I'm no supporter, but…

    You would never use your left hand in any arabic country. It is the unclean hand that one uses to wipe your…assets…after using the restroom.

    IF he is introducing his staff, he is using the gesture (open hand, pointing is considered very rude) properly.

    It DOES look ackward though.

    Who knows, we'll probably get the spun answer by the end of the week.

    When I saw this on the news. it was my impression (as others have said) that these were Obama's staff and he was gesturing to them as he introduced them to the Saudi king. There was an obvious difference in my view of how he responded to those he was intorduced to, and shook hands with, and the next group of people who were part of his group and he was naming each of them for the king, and he was pointing them out as he named them.

    In Saudi you do not use your left hand for anything, it is considered bad manners due to the left hand is used to wipe yourself when you go to the bathroom. Along the streets in the cities are streams of water coming out of the wall, where you go to the bathroom and rinse your left hand after you are finished.

        …if you take into account that they wash their hands after using the restroom it's not gross at all, just custom. For some reason it's still hard to get folks here in America to practice sufficient hand washing but then again folks in the west kiss animals, let dogs sleep in their beds and eat off their plates and think comedy skits about feces are funny… now THAT'S gross!
