WWE Goes to Iraq – Again (VIDEO)

Today, Neal Cavuto had WWE’s John Cena and Bobby Lashley, who is himself a former Army Sergeant, on the show today to talk about the WWE’s continuing tradition to go visit and entertain the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan during the holidays. This year is the 4th year they’ve gone, and after listening to these guys talk about their love and admiration for our troops, I’ve just gotten a new respect for professional wrestling.

These guys and gals have more patriotism in their pinky fingers than most of Hollyweird has in any single one body (except for Gary Sinise, Ron Silver and a few others). I watch this event on Pay-Per-View every year, and this year will be no exception. Too bad Hollyweird is so self-obsessed they’ve dropped the ball that Bob Hope and the U.S.O. carried for so many years.

Watch the interview here.

I've been a fan of professional wrestling since I was but a wee lad in the late 1960's. My Grandaddy took me to the televised matches at WMC in Memphis, TN where I first met Jerry Lawler. I'm familiar somewhat with the behind-the-scenes nature of the business starting back during the kayfabe days all the way to today. My admiration for the dedication it takes to be sucessful in professional wrestling has always been high. Plus for every major superstar in the business, there are hundreds and hundreds of people busting their butts to put on shows for people at small venues all across the country.

Anyway, a couple points of interest concerning the WWE's annual trips to Iraq to entertain the troops. First, no wrestler is mandated by the company to go. It's strictly voluntary. Secondly, every year since the beginning, the list of volunteers has always exceeded the number of slots available making it quite difficult for WWE officials to say “no.” Personally speaking, it seems each and every WWE wrestler who does go seems to push themselves to put on a “better than best” performance for the troops present.

The WWE Goes To Iraq To Entertain The Troops…

Yesterday I was watching Fox News and caught most of the segment on Neil Cavuto's show regarding the WWE's planned trip to Iraq to entertain the troops (MsUnderestimated has video available). This is the 4th years they've done this and with each…

I'm not much of a wrestling fan. Hey, if I want to see some ugly beast scream in to the camera about how good they are…I'd watch Rosie O'donnel on the View. However, I applaud these guys and gals for doing this. I'm sure it's a lot of fun for the troops and a welcome distraction.

    Kudos.
