Israel’s War is Our War (VIDEO)

Friday on Bill O’Reilly, Laura had Frank Gaffney, Former Asst. Secretary of Defense, and Gary Berntsen, Former Chief of the CIA’s Hezbollah Unit in to discuss the current Israeli war against Hezbollah. As usual, Frank Gaffney, ever the brilliant scholar, did not disappoint.

Laura starts off by asking Mr. Gaffney about Syria, the fact that Iraq’s WMDs are reported to have been moved to Syria, Iran’s sponsorship of Syria and Hezbollah in general, and what he thought of the threat by that. Gaffney said that was all unknown at this point, but it couldn’t be ruled out. He thought something else was equally important to discuss.

Frank: But I think one thing that this audience in particular needs to understand is I think Israel is fighting OUR war. These are enemies of ours, not just of Israel. Hezbollah, the FBI has pointed out, has active cells in as many as maybe a dozen cities in this country, with the capacity of, in the words of one of the former officials, to attack us anywhere, anytime here in America. So it’s very much in our interest that Israel succeeds in this. It will take dealing with Iran and Syria, in which I think we’re going to have to help with.

Laura then talks about the split between conservatives over the issue, citing George Will and Pat Buchanan’s latest literary incursions about this being “not our thing” there.

Frank: Here’s why it is. I believe we’re in a war for the free world that is truly a global war.

Laura: Do Americans believe that?

Frank: Well I think Americans who think about it do, and those who have not been thinking about it probably don’t. But here’s the main reason why: the principal element, the leading edge of which, we are fighting now or seeing fought now in the Middle East with Hezbollah, is a political ideology I think is best described as Islamofascism. It’s a unifying theme; it has its Shiite dimensions, it has its Sunni dimensions, but it is part and parcel of our war, as well.

I’ve never heard someone hit this nail on the head so straight on, and that’s one of the things I admire about Frank Gaffney. Anytime he’s a part of a segment on any of the shows, I always watch with rapt attention so I can possibly glean something from his political and world-history acumen.
