Tomb Of the Unknown Soldier (VIDEO)

May 29, 2006 Military, Military Support & Patriotism, Video 20 Comments

In honor of all of the American veterans who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom, FNS’s “Person of the Week” was appropriately Army Staff Sgt. Alfred Lanier, who is the Head Guard at the Tom of the Unknown Soldier.

Tomb Vigil

If only the average American had this much dedication and resolve, they would not be screaming for an immediate pull-out of Iraq. Regardless of what some believe, this country IS worth both fighting and dying for.

To all the men and women who have served this country, in whatever capacity, I salute you. We owe you an eternal debt of gratitude. Not even hurricane Isabel could stop these men from keeping the vigil.

Have a Happy Memorial Day, and NEVER FORGET!

Ian also picked this up later in the evening. I’ve also shared this with my friends at Jo’s Cafe, Amy Proctor’s place, Gribbit’s Word, One Big Dog, and Cao’s Blog.

“No one wants any soldier to die, but be proud. The United States is a liberator.”…

This w as a powerful interview. What a difference in the quality of character and stature between a soldier guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and, say, a John Murtha or John Kerry.

Is it always worth fighting and dying whenever politicians say it is? Should we always stand mute and blind when Washington speaks? Don't we owe our soldiers a little more?

  10. We owe our soldiers whatever they were told they would receive when they voluntarily joined the Armed Forces. They weren't drafted, remember. I find this frequent argument quite odd, considering re-enlistment rates are at record highs. So, not only are they not signing out out after their first or second terms, they're asking to stay and continue the fight. So, your question might better be answered by one of them. Why don't you go talk to a soldier, airman, or Marine? You might be surprised.

And SSgt. Lanier didn't look like he hated his job at all. I don't personally know any person who has as much dedication, resolve, committment, and self-discipline as does this man.

Other than the fact that the Old Guard is a U.S. Army unit, not a U.S.M.C. unit (meaning SSgt Lanier is USA, not USMC), this is a very nice tribute to the men guarding the Unknowns, and to the Unknowns themselves, and by extension all active duty and veteran service people.

Can you please change the title Marine to Soldier? Soldiers don't like to be called Marines and Vice versa. By the way the blue uniform he is wearing will replace the green uniform by 2011. Lot's of people get confused with the diffrent service uniforms for some reason.

This gave video made me realize what an honor it was for my brother, when he was one of the few who guarded the tomb.

Thanks to all who have had the honor.
