“No More Smoke & Mirrors” by Reader Cheryl, in Florida

Dear Representatives:

I am aware of some of you who are taking a very serious look at the problem that has been allowed to continue since the last amnesty. If one goes back far enough, Johnson and Kennedy created the mess – Reagan did nothing but award the millions, Clinton introduced NAFTA which has further encouraged people to leave their own countries because their wages are too low (among other problems).

I want all of you to consider something while this heated subject of illegal entry is being discussed — that being that most of us out here have learned lessons even if our government officials haven’t.

One major elephant in our living rooms is that while lip service is paid to law enforcement, it hasn’t been funded to the degree that is actually needed to stop the illegal flow. We’ve had laws on the books that would have prevented all of this mess from happening…but, where was the MONEY to back those laws??

Now, we’re listening to arguments between the House and Senate trying to find a delicate way to please everyone all of the time again, and combine law enforcement and border protection – with another type of amnesty. They should be separate – and any kind of temporary worker program should be put on the back burner until OUR LAWS ARE ACTUALLY ALLOWED TO WORK – and funding is appropriated and put to use that we can actually see (for once).

IF a bill is passed that includes both enforcement/border protection, AND some kind of avenue to amnesty (instead of a temporary worker program), NOTHING will CHANGE. We know that out here from experience – and if you all think that we can be fooled again, it won’t work. We’ve lost a lot of faith in our leaders to actually get a job done – and that includes our current president.

NAFTA did not have positive affects for Mexico and rather than hiding that fact under the rug somewhere, President Bush should be taking action to remedy the negative impact of NAFTA for people in Mexico That would help curb the flow in a REAL humane way – since everyone is concerned about being humane.

In the meantime, the two approaches to the problem HAVE to be kept separate. SHOW us that our laws are going to be enforced; show us that there is serious fines on the companies, contractors, etc. who hire illegal workers. SHOW us the money that will be needed to secure our borders!! More, if the obvious incentives and loopholes (including the anchor baby syndrome) were closed, there would be a departure of many who are here illegally…..another Common Sense approach.

We all know this is a tremendous challenge for all of you; however, you ALL have allowed it to continue until it reached this crisis!! Now, unless the challenge is taken seriously by putting our laws into action and making sure that border security is FUNDED this time and BEFORE some kind of decision is made to allow temporary workers (forget amnesty!!!) every single encumbent will be witness to the most radical grassfire effort to unseat you that you can even imagine.

The public is tired of the smoke-and-mirrors approach when it comes to jobs and our standard of living. NAFTA was sold to the public with the same smoke-and-mirrors, past amnesties have proven to only draw more over our borders, the incentive programs have been allowed to continue, the IRS sidesteps the fraud of unlawful social security numbers, our school system has suffered from the excess number of students born of illegal parents — you are ALL AWARE of the downside of the millions who have already arrived over our southern borders – and you simply have to rise up to this problem and get it FIXED this time. Keep in mind that all those millions who may “earn” citizenship will NOT remain in those same jobs very long either….then what???? Do it all over again??? NOT.

Groups are already beginning to organize to boycott companies – and it won’t stop there. Unless our laws are enforced – the border secured FIRST, you can all plan to see yourselves voted out of office and that is also being organized — just in case. We’re serious out here – and we’re hoping you all take your jobs just as seriously and know that we’re paying very close attention out here.

Shame on President Bush for even considering any earned citizenship/guestworker — amnesty — program.. His Medicare Reform helped some – but hurt many of the most needy people and now, he’s kowtowing to Vincente Fox and corporate special interests groups….at the expense of American taxpayers!!!

Houston…..we have a problem!!!! Now – GO FIX IT.

Infuriated in Florida.

  • AMERICA THE BOOBIFUL
I used to think that we as a nation and as a people were smart enough to beat everyone at their game. Now it looks like we are such a bunch of bumbling boobs that even a bunch of illiterate third-worlders are getting over on us. ALL of them. As went Rome, so goes America. Imploding because of too many cheap laborers and no way to pay for them all.
