“A Time for Change,” by Reader David Zickefoose

A Time for Change

The Federal Court and Congress have suborned the sovereignty of the States and taken the power from the people.

This claim is unarguable, as neither the Courts nor Congress choose to follow the voice of the people, and ignore the votes of the people. Examples include the present Immigration crisis, and the vote of Nebraskan’s on the issue of the definition of marriage. There are hundreds more.

The Supreme Court prefers to use the governing documents of foreign countries, and some bizarre notion of “societal evolution” in reaching decisions, rather than to use the Constitution. Lower courts choose “restorative justice” to treat those convicted of the most hideous crimes against our children, in lieu of a punishment that fits the crime. The elitist judiciary has chosen to become policy makers, which contradicts intent of the founders.

The founders had a reason for limiting the power of the federal government. They understood that decisions made at the federal level could only be reached through compromise, and that the results of compromise is at best, mediocrity.

For 40 years Congress ignored the overwhelming evidence of the growing threat of terrorism building in the Middle East, and the finite supply of fossil fuel. For 20 years they watched as Social Security and other entitlement programs approach bankruptcy, and any plan to confront the loss of 78.2 million “baby boomer” from our labor market remains a mystery. For the past 15 years Congress has failed to enforce the laws that they have written on immigration.

The only solution is to impeach justices that fail to abide by their oath before God to protect and defend the Constitution, to impeach justices that fail to accept their responsibility to protect the innocent and punish the guilty, and to demand term limits for all member of Congress. The time is now to return power to the self-governed.

“No More Smoke & Mirrors” by Reader Cheryl, in Florida

by MsUnderestimated — Categories: Illegal Immigration1 Comment

Dear Representatives:

I am aware of some of you who are taking a very serious look at the problem that has been allowed to continue since the last amnesty. If one goes back far enough, Johnson and Kennedy created the mess – Reagan did nothing but award the millions, Clinton introduced NAFTA which has further encouraged people to leave their own countries because their wages are too low (among other problems).

I want all of you to consider something while this heated subject of illegal entry is being discussed — that being that most of us out here have learned lessons even if our government officials haven’t.

One major elephant in our living rooms is that while lip service is paid to law enforcement, it hasn’t been funded to the degree that is actually needed to stop the illegal flow. We’ve had laws on the books that would have prevented all of this mess from happening…but, where was the MONEY to back those laws??

Now, we’re listening to arguments between the House and Senate trying to find a delicate way to please everyone all of the time again, and combine law enforcement and border protection – with another type of amnesty. They should be separate – and any kind of temporary worker program should be put on the back burner until OUR LAWS ARE ACTUALLY ALLOWED TO WORK – and funding is appropriated and put to use that we can actually see (for once).

IF a bill is passed that includes both enforcement/border protection, AND some kind of avenue to amnesty (instead of a temporary worker program), NOTHING will CHANGE. We know that out here from experience – and if you all think that we can be fooled again, it won’t work. We’ve lost a lot of faith in our leaders to actually get a job done – and that includes our current president.

NAFTA did not have positive affects for Mexico and rather than hiding that fact under the rug somewhere, President Bush should be taking action to remedy the negative impact of NAFTA for people in Mexico That would help curb the flow in a REAL humane way – since everyone is concerned about being humane.

In the meantime, the two approaches to the problem HAVE to be kept separate. SHOW us that our laws are going to be enforced; show us that there is serious fines on the companies, contractors, etc. who hire illegal workers. SHOW us the money that will be needed to secure our borders!! More, if the obvious incentives and loopholes (including the anchor baby syndrome) were closed, there would be a departure of many who are here illegally…..another Common Sense approach.

We all know this is a tremendous challenge for all of you; however, you ALL have allowed it to continue until it reached this crisis!! Now, unless the challenge is taken seriously by putting our laws into action and making sure that border security is FUNDED this time and BEFORE some kind of decision is made to allow temporary workers (forget amnesty!!!) every single encumbent will be witness to the most radical grassfire effort to unseat you that you can even imagine.

The public is tired of the smoke-and-mirrors approach when it comes to jobs and our standard of living. NAFTA was sold to the public with the same smoke-and-mirrors, past amnesties have proven to only draw more over our borders, the incentive programs have been allowed to continue, the IRS sidesteps the fraud of unlawful social security numbers, our school system has suffered from the excess number of students born of illegal parents — you are ALL AWARE of the downside of the millions who have already arrived over our southern borders – and you simply have to rise up to this problem and get it FIXED this time. Keep in mind that all those millions who may “earn” citizenship will NOT remain in those same jobs very long either….then what???? Do it all over again??? NOT.

Groups are already beginning to organize to boycott companies – and it won’t stop there. Unless our laws are enforced – the border secured FIRST, you can all plan to see yourselves voted out of office and that is also being organized — just in case. We’re serious out here – and we’re hoping you all take your jobs just as seriously and know that we’re paying very close attention out here.

Shame on President Bush for even considering any earned citizenship/guestworker — amnesty — program.. His Medicare Reform helped some – but hurt many of the most needy people and now, he’s kowtowing to Vincente Fox and corporate special interests groups….at the expense of American taxpayers!!!

Houston…..we have a problem!!!! Now – GO FIX IT.

Infuriated in Florida.

“The Tipping Point,” by Reader David C. Zickefoose

by MsUnderestimated — Categories: Illegal ImmigrationLeave a comment

The Honorable Chuck Hagel and Lee Terry

Dear Sirs:

I expect no reply to this as it is my experience that messages that are critical never receive responses. No matter.

Let there be no mistake. Border protection and immigration enforcement are deal breakers with the majority of the American public. You have the power to close the border immediately, and if you don’t you can kiss the up and coming elections good-by. Forget about some insignificant “5 year plan.” If you go wobbly-kneed on the enforcement of the laws that you have created, the same is true. You must find an acceptable solution for filling the void caused by the retirement of 78.2 million “baby boomer,” as the public will insure that the people for whom they vote will respect the rule of law. Ever thought of “legal immigration?’

I have been a loyal Republican for decades. I have supported the party with vigor and with finances, to the extent I have been able. Like many other’s I have stopped the funding, and am changing my voter registration to independent.

American’s have reached the tipping point, and this will be a defining moment for the Party.

I suggested to Bill Frist, that he check with state voter registrars before taking a “soft” approach in this issue, to determine just how many Republicans have reregistered as in independent.

I no longer refer to myself as a Republican, rather a Reagan Conservative. Not just because of immigration, but also because of the Parties inability to control spending, reform taxes, or cut the size of government by one-third.

I am sorry, but I fear the decision you reach is a career decision.

Sincerely,

David C. Zickefoose

The Dangers of Thinking

by MsUnderestimated — Categories: Humor8 Comments

It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then — just to loosen up.

Inevitably, though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.

I began to think alone — “to relax,” I told myself –but I knew it wasn’t true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.

That was when things began to sour at home. One evening I had turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life.

She spent that night at her mother’s.

I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don’t mix, but I couldn’t stop myself. I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read Thoreau and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, “What is it exactly we are doing here?”

One day the boss called me in. He said, “Listen, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don’t stop thinking on the job, you’ll have to find another job.”

This gave me a lot to think about. I came home early after my conversation with the boss. “Honey,” I confess, “I’ve been thinking…”

“I know you’ve been thinking,” she said, “and I want a divorce!”

“But Honey, surely it’s not that serious.”

“It is serious,” she said, lower lip aquiver. “You think as much as college professors, and college professors don’t make any money, so if you keep on thinking, we won’t have any money!”

“That’s a faulty syllogism,” I said impatiently. She exploded in tears of rage and frustration, but I was in no mood to deal with the emotional drama.

“I’m going to the library,” I snarled as I stomped out the door.

I headed for the library, in the mood for some Nietzsche. I roared into the parking lot with NPR on the radio and ran up to the big glass doors… They didn’t open. The library was closed.

To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night. Leaning on the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a Poster caught my eye, “Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?” it asked.

You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinkers Anonymous poster. Which is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker.

I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was “Porky’s.”

Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting.

I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed…easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking.I think the road to recovery is nearly complete for me.

Today I made the final step, I registered to vote as a Democrat…….

PEACE AND LOVE

“El Gran Boicot” – from La Aztlan

The latest and greatest update from that wonderful organization, La Aztlan:

Coming Next: “El Gran Boicot”

Pro-immigrant coalition to paralyze US economy
by Ernesto Cienfuegos
La Voz de Aztlan

Los Angeles, Alta California – March 31, 2006 – (ACN) The coalition that brought over 700,000 pro-immigrant rights marchers to Los Angeles announced yesterday that the next mass action will be “an economic and labor boycott that will paralyze the US economy”. The planned boycott, which now has international support, is to protest the racist HR4437 legislation being debated in the US Senate.

Dr. Armando Navarro, coordinator of the National Alliance for Human Rights (NAHR), said “We are living through very dangerous times and we must take advantage of the moment. If we just sit and wait to see what happens, everything we have accomplished so far may go to waste. That is why we must continue the struggle to once and for all defeat that racist proposal (HR4437)”.

Coalition member Roberto Reveles of “Unidos en Arizona” said that they will help host a “Summit Meeting” in Phoenix, Arizona to work out the details of the “international economic and labor boycott”. The summit will take place on April 8th and 9th. The boycott will take place on May 1 (Day of the International Solidarity of Workers) or May 5 (Cinco de Mayo). To be debated is whether a boycott beginning on May 1 and ending with a huge “fiesta” on May 5 can be sustained.

Phoenix, Arizona saw a huge march and rally on March 24 in which over 15,000 participated. Roberto Reveles said, “What occurred on March 24 is a consequence of the people being tired of the treatment we are receiving. The first step has already been taken, we organized ourselves and have completed the first phase, now we have to prepare for the second. We will not rest until we see HR4437 defeated”. Reveles added, “We are sure that the preparations we make at the summit will lead us to victory. We are united and only united will we be victorious”.

The two day summit will be attended by Mexican-American and other Latino groups from Nevada, Texas, Wisconsin, Washington, New York, Chicago, California and other states. Representatives from Mexico, Central and South America will also be present. A major focus of the meeting will be to finalize the details of the boycott.

Dr. Armando Navarro of the NAHR said that the “international boycott” counts on the support of the consulates of Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba and Mexico, as well as that of Mexican labor organizations. The coalition welcomes the support of other countries abroad.

“We have to demonstrate to the nation, one more time, that its economic stability depends on us. I am sure that our sister nations of Latin America, who are also tired of the situation, will unite with us”, Professor Navarro said. “That is why we will celebrate May 1, ‘Day of the Worker’, with labor strikes, no purchases and go out and march.

Soon they will see the impact we will have!”, he concluded.
