“24″ – Lynn the Weasel Revealed (VIDEO)

March 11, 2006 Telling It Like it Is, Video View Comments

Late last week, Tony Snow showed a “Back of the Book” segment as he sat in for O’Reilly. The creator of “24,” Joel Surnow, and the actor, Sean Astin, who plays the weasel, Lynn McGill (thank GOD Curtis had him taken into custody), sat down with Bill to discuss the enormously-popular show.

Bill asks generalities abou the show, and brings up “The West Wing,” to which Sean says that “The West Wing” is his favorite show, and is probably the best show in television history (yeah, right.. that’s why it’s tanking in the ratings). He says that “24” is too disturbing and that is wife won’t watch and won’t let his kids watch it either.

In the clip, O’Reilly talks to both of them, asking about the political implications, and whether or not they get any flack from the Hollywood elite about the show.

Joel tells Bill that people from both parties like the show, emphasizing that even Barbra Streisand watches “24,” indicating she says it’s the only show she watches.

Bill: Barbra Streisand is down with torture? I never knew! Who knew?

Sean: I don’t know if the show actually comes down so squarely on the side of torture…

Bill: Oh, come on! You want me to tell people what you guys do on that show? Electrocution, illegal wiretapping, detaining suspects on American soil without warrants, shooting suspects, threatening suspects’ families; cutting off suspects’ heads. Come on! This is not “Leave it to Beaver!”

Joel: …and that’s just the FIRST act!!

Sean: …all of which he could be potentially prosecuted for!

(Even though the implication of Sean’s last statement above portends he’s referring to Jack Bauer, do you get a sense, as do I, that he might have perhaps been either consciously or subconsciously referring to, say, the President of the United States when speaking about potential prosecution? Wishful thinking for him and his ilk? Me, paranoid? Not exactly…I’m just a realist and astute observer of the left-wing liberal kook fringe.)

Then the question comes up about Keifer’s father, Donald Sutherland, who is a very liberal Hollywood activist, who hates this current Administration. Surnow finishes the segment saying that he THINKS Keifer probably doesn’t agree with some of the things his character (Jack Bauer) does, even though he was born and raised in socialist Canada. Well, damn, if that’s the case, then that REALLY makes him one hell of an actor!

Oh…. and you’re probably wondering why I think it’s even significant that Sean Astin responded the way he did. Well, if you had listened to Laura Ingraham last week, you would have probably discovered the same thing I did – Sean Astin was active in the ‘04 presidential campaign for John sKerry! HAHA!

It all makes sense now… and he portrays the PERFECT weasel – just like I’d expect for someone from the sKerry camp. Wonder how long it will take for that centox nerve gas to find its way into his respiratory system? Probably not soon enough, as far as his weak-kneed character goes. But then again, I guess every excellent, REALISTIC drama has to have a person you love to hate. Lynn McGill (Sean Astin) is that guy.

  • Hardcore: You had my thoughts EXACTLY! I was talking about the episode with my co-workers the next day, and I said "you know what? the way Chloe looked at the end when she saw Edgar going down, she was very afraid. But remember last season when she HAD to go out in the field, didn't think she could, but had to kill a terrorist? I think she'll develop that taste again! HA! I think she'll ASK to be put in the field so she can take these murders out along with Jack!"

My co-workers thought I was crazy, but I think it could happen.

Were you surprised to find out "Lynn McGill" in true life was/is a Kerry supporter? LOL.. I wouldn't be surprised if "Pres. Logan" is, too! HAHAHA
  • Chloe's gonna go Rambo IMO
  • Jo:

We'd have to lose 10 McGill's to make up for one Edgar. Something tells me in the look on Chloe's face when that was happening, that she may get some motivation to get Jack to put her out in the field to take down these terrorists!

Personally, I hope Lynn gets what he has coming to him; that Logan disgraces himself so badly that Pres. Palmer has to be resurrected, and that all will be one with the universe again.

P.S. I hope Martha and Aaron get together, and I hope that Mike kicks not only Logan's ass but his new VP (who unbelievably seems more of a jackass than Logan).

If I have to lose Edqar, the libs have to lose Lynn McGill -- hopefully he's tits up in his holding room ;)
  • The only thing that Sean has ever done that I liked was Rudy. Well then there was his comic relief character in 50 First Dates which I don't think was much of a stretch for him. A mental midget playing a mental midget.
